This was my second workshop, and it was another good one! Lots of good chats with people from all walks of life, while working on our taonga together. I came away learning more techniques, too.
Absolutely fabulous activity. It was amazing watching the colours start to come out as you carved and polished up the stone. Be prepared to put some some hard mahi but be rewarded in turn. Great teachers and nice to meet a bunch of folk from all different walks of life but all interested in learning.
I'll totally be doing this again, but next time will be taking my daughter with me.

I so enjoyed meeting Maha, Lara and Ash who were the teachers and facilitators of the workshop.
From the first moment of stepping into the workshop I felt welcomed - I loved every minute of it!
In creating our Marama Taonga we learnt how to use grinders, drills, wet and dry sanding, and polishing tools to design and carve our own pendant. However, we also learnt how to physically grind and sand our chosen stones and to learn how the stone reacts to our touch. This was a very calming activity and allows one to slow down and just enjoy being in the moment!
We were also taught how to bind and lash the traditional Polynesian way to complete our necklace.
I am wearing mine today and keeping it safe for my true love when he finally arrives in Aotearoa.
